In Humanities this quarter we've been working on a semester long Hawaiian hero's project. Throughout this quarter and the next quarter we have assignments and projects based around a Hawaiian hero we chose at the beginning of the quarter. My Hawaiian hero is Queen Ka'ahumanu and for this assignment we were to write a 350 word essay putting ourselves in a day of the life of our Hawaiian hero. In the essay we had to write it in first person, so initially putting ourselves in the shoes of our Hawaiian hero and writing about a day that was a defining moment in their life. In the essay we also had display emotions and not write completely in a formal way. For Queen Ka'ahumanu I wrote about the day she accomplished in abolishing the centuries old kapu system. Why I chose it: I chose to share this assignment/project on my weebly because I really love writing and history, specifically Hawaiian history. To do this project/assignment was one of my favorites this quarter because it has a mix of both of the topics I love. Writing in first person of a defining day in a Hawaiian hero's life was greatly interest and quite fun to do. While writing about that defining day for Queen Ka'ahumanu helped me learn more about both what I like doing, but also learn about something that majorly changed the course of Hawaiian history. 21st Century Skills: The 21st century skill that best represent this assignment/project is information skills. Information skills best fits this assignment/project because in the assignment we were to write about a defining moment in the Hawaiian hero's life; writing it in first person and about something in their life is me providing information on the topic of the defining moment. The topic in the assignment being the kapu system that Queen Ka'ahumanu broke. How it Challenged me: The project challenged me to find the right emotions that displayed the situation and moment of what Queen Ka'ahumanu had been possibly feeling that day. It also challenged me to tell the tell the reader, while in first person, about the kapu system and the process she went through to abolish it. The assignment/project showcased my interest in Hawaiian history and writing. It showcase my abilities of writing in first person and displaying emotions that could properly go with the moment Queen Ka'ahumanu could have been feeling in the moment. How I could improve from this point and what I could do better next time:I could improve from this point on by conveying more emotions and more describing words of feeling in first person writings. I could also improve on grammar almost always because grammar is something that needs to be worked on and practiced more. Next time I could do better at writing in not so much of a formal way because in the assignment it was to write in to so much of a formal way; I feel like I did do that in this assignment but I should work on it more when it comes an assignment that shouldn't be so formal, I'm so used to writing in a formal format which is good, but I also should be able to write in a less formal way too.
