Description of Work/Assignment: Last quarter we worked with H.A.R.F (Hawaii, Animal, Rescue, Foundation) in community engagement quite a lot. With H.A.R.F, they offered us a lot of volunteer opportunities. At H.A.R.F, there was a spay and neuter clinic during a day on the weekend a couple months ago. While at the spay and neuter clinic we put together the dogs cones and went around talking to them before they went into their surgery. For volunteering we got extra credit for the class if we went, but I enjoyed volunteering even if there wasn't any extra credit. Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?: The 21st century skill I believe works with this project is civic literacy and engagement because volunteering for H.A.R.F is a local community organization. With H.A.R.F coming to Kihei Charter we are helping to make a positive impact on the organization and the school. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?: I'm proud of finding the time to volunteer. It was fun and I would go and volunteer again if I had more time.. I'm most proud of attempting to put the dog cones together. They were a bit difficult I guess. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?: I developed, and or improved the civic literacy and engagement skill by engaging with about the dogs while volunteering for a local organization. What was most difficult about completing this task?: The most difficult thing that occurred while completing my task at H.A.R.F was putting the dog cones together. The lady that was explaining how to put them together spoke softly, so it was a bit difficult trying to hear what she was saying while 20 dogs were barking. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?: If I could improve this work/start over, what I would do differently would be to go to the barn that some others did at H.A.R.F to participate more and help get some work done. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?: How can you apply this to future learning?: This relates to what I have learned in the past about H.A.R.F and what they are all about. I can apply this to my future learning by volunteering with more local organizations and engaging with the community.
