Last quarter in science we did current events each week based on an interest of our own and the topic of the week we learned in class. By the end of about 5 weeks we chose our favorite current event out of the 4 we did to present about, and then would expand on the current event we decided to present about. My interest topic was sports and the science topic of the week was Cells. I did my presentation on how concussions from an activity or sport can be detected from taking blood due to proteins from cells being released. Goals I had for the project were, to give an informational and detailed presentation on my current event of choice, and to create a good understanding about my current event for my peers. Why I chose it: I selected this work sample/project to share in my portfolio because I wanted to share about how doing the current events and the current event project helped me better understand the topic we learned about each week in class by reading and typing out my own understanding that I gathered from the information that was given to me. 21st Century Skills: The 21st century skill, Communication Skills best represent the current event presentation I did in Science because I was communicating through my presentation to me peers about how the cells and neurons are affected, and what happens to them when you get a concussion that could be caused by sports. How it Challenged me:The Current event presentation project challenged me to expand on research I had already done, and challenged me to present to other students and my teacher. My interest in cells and the neurologic part of a person were showcased in the project by having my presentation correlate to my interest in what I presented about. My abilities of presenting, writing, and comprehension were showcased in the project when I gathered information for the presentation to speak about. How I could improve from this point and what I could do better next time: From this point I would like to improve on my presentation skills; by slowing down when I give information to my peers. What I could do better next time is providing more images to represent the information I had presented about in the presentation.
